Christopher Albrecht is the 2018 New York State Teacher of the Year and a 2019 Inductee into the National Teachers Hall of Fame. He has been a CBS Golden Apple recipient and is a member of the Wall of Fame at his alma matters, St. Bonaventure University and Fairport High School. Since 1998, he has found great joy teaching 4th and 5th grade at the Fred W. Hill School in Brockport, New York. He spends evenings as an adjunct professor of adolescent literacy and child psychology at the SUNY College at Brockport. Well versed in speaking to audiences ranging from 5 to 5,000, Albrecht has presented all over the United States to communities, schools and universities. Albrecht has delivered two TEDx Talks: “Dust and Sneakers, Crawling and Running” and “Giftedness for All.”
Albrecht has been a teacher for over a quarter century. He spent the first three years of his career in New Martinsville, West Virginia. In his first year, Albrecht was named a Sallie Mae First Class National Teacher of the Year. His teaching assignment as an underqualified middle school technology teacher responsible for bringing a kindergarten through 8th grade school online in the year of the internet was the springboard for his first book, Unconventionally Successful, NFB Publishing, 2020. This book spent seven weeks on amazon.com’s top 100 in the genre of educational psychology topping out at #21. Albrecht has published articles for the National Park Service and many education periodicals.
With a love for the National Parks, Albrecht has begun working summers for the National Park Service as a program creator, presenter, writer, and interpreter. He enjoys backcountry hiking, distance running, and geology. Albrecht lives in the town in which he teaches with his wife, Jennifer. They have three kids that are now adults: Autumn, Cory, and Aaron.
